Right to Farm
South Carolina has enacted specific protections for agricultural facilities and operations. LADA exists in part to help producers understand those protections and to insist that they are respected in practice.

South Carolina’s Right to Farm Act establishes a statewide policy to conserve, protect, and encourage agricultural land, agricultural facilities, and the production of food and other agricultural products.
Counties retain zoning authority to determine whether an agricultural use is permitted. But when an agricultural facility or operation is permitted or approved through a conditional use, special exception, or similar procedure, S.C. Code § 46-45-60(B) places limits on non-identical local development standards and ordinances to the extent provided by the Act.
